Position Overview
- The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing financial analysis to support decision-making. The role requires a seasoned professional with strong technical expertise, experience in managing complex accounting functions, and the ability to align financial practices with regulatory requirements.
- This position plays a critical role in statutory compliance, internal controls, reporting, and supporting strategic financial initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate general ledger accounts and financial statements
- Ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Comply with IFRS and other applicable accounting standards.
- Support consolidation of financial results across departments or subsidiaries.
- Ensure compliance with CBN, FIRS, and other regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with external and internal auditors, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- File tax returns, statutory remittances, and other regulatory reports on time.
- Assist in preparing annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Monitor expenditure against budget, analyzing variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Provide financial insights to support strategic decisions.
- Manage daily cash flow, banking transactions, and reconciliations.
- Ensure proper management of working capital and liquidity.
- Monitor investment and financing activities where applicable.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation measures.
- Ensure adherence to corporate governance and compliance frameworks.
- Utilize accounting and ERP systems effectively for reporting and compliance.
- Support automation and process improvements in finance functions.
- Leverage technology for regulatory reporting and decision support.
- Provide timely financial information and support to management.
- Collaborate with business units on financial planning and analysis.
- Build strong relationships with banks, regulators, and auditors.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly treasury accounts.
- Manage loan portfolio.
- Prepare and present monthly management account.
Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy and timeliness of financial reports.
- Compliance with statutory, tax, and CBN regulatory requirements.
- Effectiveness of internal controls and risk management processes.
- Efficiency in budgeting, cost control, and financial planning.
- Audit outcomes and compliance ratings.
- Efficiency of loan management.
- All round delivery of treasury activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Chartered Accountant (ICAN) – mandatory.
- CBN registration – added advantage.
- 10–12 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles.
- Preferably in structured organizations or regulated financial institutions.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, tax laws, and regulatory frameworks.

- Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and integrity.
- Proficiency in accounting/ERP software, QuickBooks, Sage-50 and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Very proficient in the use of Bankone Accounting Software.
Salary
N3,600,000 - N5,000,000 annually.
