Overview
- The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and supporting management with reliable financial information for decision-making.
- The role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on experience, and the ability to supervise junior finance staff.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts in line with IFRS.
- Ensure timely and accurate posting of transactions in the general ledger.
- Review and reconcile balance sheet and profit & loss accounts.
- Maintain proper accounting records and supporting schedules.
Budgeting & Performance Monitoring:
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Monitor budget performance and prepare variance analysis.
- Provide insights on cost control and revenue performance.
Statutory & Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws (CIT, VAT, WHT, PAYE).
- Coordinate preparation and filing of statutory returns.
- Liaise with tax consultants, auditors, and regulatory bodies (FIRS, State IRS).
- Support external audits and respond to audit queries.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement:
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Review accounting processes and recommend improvements.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
Team Supervision & Collaboration:
- Supervise and review work of junior accountants.
- Provide guidance and on-the-job training to finance team members.
- Work closely with operations, procurement, HR, and business units.
Systems & Data Management:
- Work with ERP / accounting systems (knowledge of SAP S4 HANA software will be an advantage)
- Ensure data integrity and accuracy within financial systems.
- Support system upgrades or finance-related implementations where required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
- ICAN / ACCA Certification
- 4-6 years relevant accounting experience.
- At least 2–3 years in a senior or supervisory accounting role.
- Experience in oil & gas industry is an advantage. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, or QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level preferred).
- Hands-on experience with SAP S4HANA SOFTWARE .
- Strong financial analysis and reporting skills.
- Strong understanding of vendor invoicing, purchase order matching, and accounts payable procedures.
- Familiarity with Nigerian tax and financial reporting standards.
