About the Job:

As Director - Legal (Construction), you will provide specialist legal leadership across major construction, infrastructure, development, procurement, and project delivery matters. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior business stakeholders, supporting a significant portfolio of development and construction projects through expert legal advice, risk management, and commercial guidance. This is a specialist construction law role focused on project delivery, construction contracts, claims management, dispute avoidance, and risk mitigation.
Lead the provision of specialist legal advice across major construction, infrastructure, development, procurement, and project delivery matters.
Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on high-value construction contracts, including contractor, consultant, EPC, infrastructure, procurement, development, and project agreements.
Advise project teams and business stakeholders on contractual risk allocation, procurement strategies, commercial risk management, and dispute avoidance throughout the project lifecycle.
Provide legal guidance on construction claims, delays, variations, defects, contractor performance, insolvency, termination matters, and settlement negotiations.
Support major development projects, construction-related joint ventures, and strategic project delivery initiatives while safeguarding the organization’s legal and commercial interests.
Manage relationships with external counsel, claims consultants, technical experts, contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
Advise on FIDIC and other international standard forms of construction contracts, ensuring best-practice governance and risk management.
Mentor and develop junior legal professionals while contributing to the continued effectiveness and growth of the Construction Legal function.

About You:

Qualified lawyer in a recognized common law jurisdiction with specialist expertise in construction law. 
A minimum of 10 years (PQE) post-qualification experience is required and at least 6 years of specialist construction law experience with significant exposure to construction, infrastructure, engineering, development, and project delivery matters.
Strong experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating construction contracts, including EPC, consultancy, procurement, development, and infrastructure agreements.
Demonstrated expertise in FIDIC and other international standard forms, including claims management, dispute avoidance, pre-dispute resolution, and contract administration.
Proven experience advising on construction claims, delays, variations, defects, termination matters, and contractual risk management.
Strong understanding of construction procurement strategies, project delivery models, risk allocation principles, and construction governance frameworks.
Experience advising senior business leaders and supporting complex construction or development portfolios in either private practice or in-house environments.
Prior experience in managing, mentoring, or developing junior lawyers is highly desirable.
Candidates with strong international construction law expertise and extensive FIDIC experience are encouraged to apply.
