Job Description
- We are seeking a proactive, analytical, and detail-oriented Accountant to manage and support its financial operations.
- The successful candidate will maintain accurate financial records, support financial reporting and planning, monitor expenditures, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide reliable financial information to support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ledgers, and supporting documentation.
- Manage day-to-day accounting transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, expenses, and payments.
- Prepare journal entries, financial schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Perform monthly bank, cash, supplier, customer, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and financial planning activities.
- Monitor departmental, project, research, and operational expenditures against approved budgets.
- Track project-related costs and support financial reporting for grants, research projects, partnerships, and funded programmes where applicable.
- Ensure financial transactions are properly authorized, documented, classified, and recorded.
- Monitor accounts receivable and payable to support effective cash-flow management.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, statutory requirements, and internal financial policies.
- Assist with tax filings, statutory reporting, audits, and regulatory reviews.
- Maintain proper documentation and financial controls to ensure audit readiness.
- Identify financial discrepancies, investigate variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Research, Procurement, Administration, and Management teams on financial matters.
- Support the development and improvement of accounting processes, controls, and reporting systems.
- Prepare financial analysis and management reports to support informed business decisions.
- Safeguard company assets and ensure appropriate financial controls are maintained.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Experience with accounting software, ERP systems, or financial management platforms.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Good understanding of Nigerian tax, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical, numerical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage confidential financial information with a high level of integrity.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, research-driven, and multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ICAN, ACCA, CPA, CMA, or an equivalent professional qualification.
- Previous experience in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, Medical Research, Diagnostics, or a related industry.
- Experience managing project, research, grant, or donor-funded accounts.
- Familiarity with research and development expenditure, laboratory operations, procurement, and inventory accounting.
- Experience with ERP platforms such as Sage, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar systems.
- Knowledge of financial reporting requirements for funded research programmes and institutional partnerships.
