Job Title: Civic Education / Social Studies Teacher

The Role
- You will teach Civic Education and/or Social Studies to junior and/or senior secondary school students, delivering lessons that are engaging, relevant, and firmly aligned with the NERDC curriculum.
- You will help students develop a strong understanding of Nigerian governance, democratic values, human rights, social responsibility, and the physical and human geography of their environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality Civic Education and/or Social Studies lessons at the junior and/or senior secondary school level in line with the NERDC curriculum.
- Set, mark, and return assignments, tests, and examination papers promptly with constructive feedback.
- Prepare students thoroughly for WAEC, NECO, and BECE examinations in Civic Education and Social Studies.
- Maintain accurate records including attendance registers, lesson notes, and continuous assessment scores.
- Monitor individual student progress and provide appropriate academic support.
- Develop and contribute to scheme of work, lesson plans, and departmental resources.
- Organise and participate in civic-themed school activities, debates, and awareness programmes where appropriate.
- Uphold and promote the school's values and ethos at all times.
- Participate in staff meetings, school events, and parent-teacher evenings.
Requirements
Essential:
- Minimum of NCE (Nigeria Certificate in Education) in Social Studies, Civic Education, or a related discipline.
- Bachelor's degree (B.Ed., B.A., or B.Sc.) in Social Studies, Political Science, Geography, Economics Education, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- NYSC Discharge Certificate or Exemption Certificate for degree holders.
- Strong working knowledge of the NERDC Civic Education and/or Social Studies curriculum for secondary schools.
- Minimum of 2 years' proven teaching experience in Civic Education or Social Studies at the secondary school level.
- Strong communication, classroom management, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to produce detailed, structured lesson notes and schemes of work.
Preferred / Advantageous:
- PGDE (Postgraduate Diploma in Education) or equivalent professional teaching qualification.
- Ability to teach both Civic Education and Social Studies across junior and/or senior secondary levels.
