Job Summary
- The Finance & Operations Manager is the CEO’s operational right hand, responsible for ensuring that Maroriem Consults runs efficiently, profitably and consistently on a day-to-day basis.
- The role combines finance leadership, operational management, client service, team accountability and commercial support.
- The Finance & Operations Manager is accountable for business performance and works closely with HR to ensure people decisions support operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Finance, Accounting & Compliance:
- Oversee daily accounting and financial operations, including postings, ledgers, invoicing, receivables and payables.
- Review bank reconciliations and maintain accurate and timely financial records.
- Monitor cash flow, budgets, profitability and working-capital requirements.
- Prepare and review management accounts and regular financial reports for the CEO.
- Oversee payroll calculations and payment readiness and coordinate with HR to ensure accurate employee data, changes and approvals are reflected.
- Manage tax compliance, annual returns and other statutory filings.
- Manage the company’s tax activities on MRIS and relevant State IRIS platforms, as applicable.
- Liaise with tax authorities, regulatory bodies and external auditors.
- Maintain and improve financial controls and accounting processes.
Operations & Service Delivery:
- Own the day-to-day operating rhythm of the business and ensure agreed processes are followed.
- Coordinate workloads, deadlines, client deliverables and internal workflows.
- Monitor service quality and ensure client work is completed accurately and on time.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement practical process improvements.
- Maintain a reliable system for tracking tasks, deadlines, client requests, follow-ups and outstanding actions.
- Ensure business-critical activities continue without routine CEO intervention.
Client Management & Consulting:
- Manage client engagements from onboarding through completion and renewal.
- Serve as primary relationship manager for assigned key clients.
- Coordinate consulting deliverables, reports, proposals and presentations.
- Monitor client expectations, timelines, service quality and issue resolution.
- Handle client escalations and ensure concerns are resolved promptly.
- Identify retention, cross-selling and upselling opportunities across Maroriem’s service offerings.
People Leadership & Performance:
- Provide functional leadership for team output, workload allocation, deadlines and operational performance.
- Set clear work objectives and measurable KPIs for team members in collaboration with the CEO and HR.
- Monitor performance and address operational underperformance promptly.
- Provide factual performance feedback and documentation to HR where formal HR action may be required.
- Work with HR to ensure performance management, probation, disciplinary and employee-relations matters follow company policy and due process.
- Identify training and capability gaps and work with HR to coordinate appropriate development.
- Promote accountability, quality and continuous improvement without duplicating the HR function.
Business Management & Growth Support:
- Provide regular financial and operational reporting to the CEO.
- Support business planning, budgeting and forecasting.
- Monitor revenue, client profitability, receivables and operating costs.
- Support proposals, pricing and commercial decisions using financial and operational insight.
- Identify opportunities to improve margins, efficiency and scalability.
- Free the CEO from routine operational matters so the CEO can focus on growth, partnerships, marketing and expansion.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics or related field.
- 6–8 years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, tax, consulting, professional services or SME operations.
- ICAN, ACCA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- Proven experience managing people, clients and competing priorities.
- Strong accounting, audit, tax, payroll, PAYE, pension, remittances and statutory-compliance knowledge.
- Experience dealing with tax authorities / Inland Revenue Service.
- Proficiency in Sage, Zoho Books, QuickBooks or similar accounting platforms.
- Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated independence, judgement, ownership and commercial awareness.
- Consulting or professional-services experience strongly preferred.
