Job Title: Accountant
Location: Lagos
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, and journal entries.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank and settlement account reconciliations.
- Support the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial statements.
- Ensure timely remittance and filing of statutory taxes (VAT, WHT, PAYE, CIT).
- Assist with budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and financial forecasting.
- Process vendor payments, staff expense claims, and payroll-related entries.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and schedules.
- Maintain fixed asset register and monitor accounting controls.
Collaboration & Work Practices:
- Work closely with the Settlement team to reconcile transaction and payout accounts.
- Support Compliance with audit trails and financial documentation requests.
- Report to the Finance Manager/CFO on account status and variances.
- Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience, ideally within banking, fintech, or a payments company.
- ICAN or ACCA certification (or in view) is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of Nigerian tax laws and financial regulations.
Required Skills & Technologies:
- Accounting Standards: IFRS and Nigerian statutory reporting requirements
- Software: QuickBooks, Sage, SAP, or similar ERP/accounting systems
- Spreadsheets: Advanced MS Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling)
- Tax: FIRS and LIRS tax filing procedures
- Reconciliation: Bank and settlement account reconciliation
