About the Role
- We are seeking a highly driven and commercially astute Business Development Manager / Commercial Manager to lead business growth, client acquisition and commercial development across its marine, offshore, oil & gas, logistics, transportation, energy and supply-chain operations.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying high-value business opportunities, developing strategic client relationships, driving the company's commercial pipeline, leading bids and proposals, negotiating contracts and converting opportunities into profitable business.
- The ideal candidate should bring strong industry knowledge, an established network of relevant decision-makers and a proven track record of generating revenue and winning contracts within the Nigerian Oil & Gas, Marine, Offshore, Logistics or Energy sectors.
Responsibilities
Business Development & Market Expansion:
- Develop and implement business development strategies to achieve the company's revenue and growth objectives.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities across the Oil & Gas, Marine, Offshore, Energy, Logistics and Supply Chain sectors.
- Conduct market research to identify emerging opportunities, new projects, industry trends and potential clients.
- Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified prospects and commercial opportunities.
- Identify new markets, service opportunities and potential revenue streams for Langley Express.
- Convert identified opportunities into client meetings, proposals, negotiations and awarded contracts.
- Develop strategies to increase Langley's market share within its target sectors.
Strategic Client Acquisition & Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with senior decision-makers across target organizations.
- Develop strong connections with Procurement, Commercial, Supply Chain, Operations, Marine, Projects and Contract Management teams.
- Identify and map key stakeholders within prospective client organizations.
- Develop and manage strategic accounts to maximize business opportunities and long-term revenue.
- Represent Langley Express at client meetings, industry events, conferences, exhibitions and business networking platforms.
- Maintain regular engagement with existing and prospective clients to identify new opportunities.
- Develop relationships that position Langley as a preferred service provider.
Oil & Gas, Marine & Offshore Business Development:
Tender, Proposal & Contract Development:
- Identify and monitor relevant tenders, RFQs, RFPs and procurement opportunities.
- Lead the business development component of tender and proposal processes.
- Coordinate with technical, operations, finance and management teams to develop competitive proposals.
- Review client requirements, scopes of work and commercial terms.
- Develop and present compelling commercial proposals aligned with client requirements.
- Lead or support contract negotiations with prospective clients.
- Ensure proposals and commercial submissions meet client requirements and internal profitability expectations.
- Maintain an organized database of active, upcoming and completed bids.
Commercial Strategy & Revenue Management:
- Develop commercial strategies that support sustainable revenue and profitability.
- Conduct competitor and market analysis to support pricing and business decisions.
- Evaluate the commercial viability, risks and potential returns of prospective contracts.
- Support the development of pricing structures in collaboration with management and relevant departments.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, contract conditions and other commercial considerations.
- Protect company margins while remaining competitive in the market.
- Provide management with accurate revenue forecasts and pipeline projections.
Strategic Partnerships & Business Alliances:
- Identify potential strategic partners that can expand Langley's service capabilities and market reach.
- Develop relationships with vessel operators, contractors, logistics providers, service companies and other complementary businesses.
- Explore opportunities for joint ventures, subcontracting arrangements and strategic partnerships.
- Identify opportunities for Langley to participate as a prime contractor, subcontractor or strategic service partner.
- Develop partnerships that create sustainable commercial opportunities for the company.
Pipeline & Performance Management:
- Maintain an accurate and continuously updated business development pipeline.
- Track opportunities from initial identification through to contract award and implementation.
- Establish priorities across prospects based on commercial value, probability of conversion and strategic importance.
- Prepare regular business development and commercial reports for management.
- Monitor performance against agreed revenue and business development targets.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on market activity, client feedback and competitor movements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies or a related discipline.
- Relevant professional qualifications in Business Development, Sales, Supply Chain, Procurement, Maritime, Oil & Gas or Project Management will be an advantage.
- An MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
Experiences:
- 5–8+ years of relevant professional experience in Business Development, Commercial Management, Sales, Strategic Accounts or a related commercial function.
- Proven experience generating new business and securing commercial contracts.
- Demonstrable experience selling B2B services to corporate clients.
- Experience managing complex sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders.
- Proven experience with tenders, RFQs, RFPs and commercial proposals.
- Experience engaging senior procurement, commercial, supply-chain and operational decision-makers.
- Strong understanding of the Nigerian commercial and procurement environment.
