Job Summary
- The General Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall operations and profitability of the hotel.
- This includes managing all departments (front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, maintenance, security, and administration) to ensure excellent guest satisfaction, operational efficiency, staff productivity, and compliance with company standards.
- The ideal candidate must possess strong leadership, financial management, and people management skills, with the ability to foster a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management:
- Oversee daily hotel operations to ensure smooth running across all departments.
- Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality service standards in all areas of guest interaction.
- Coordinate inter-departmental activities to promote teamwork and operational efficiency.
- Conduct regular inspections of the property, guest rooms, public areas, and facilities to ensure cleanliness and maintenance standards are upheld.
- Implement and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all departments.
Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage the hotel’s annual budget, including revenue forecasts and expense controls.
- Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions to achieve profitability targets.
- Control operational costs and optimize resource utilization.
- Ensure timely preparation of financial and management reports for the Executive Management team.
- Oversee cash flow management, purchasing, and inventory control.
Human Resources and Staff Management:
- Recruit, train, supervise, and appraise hotel staff to maintain high performance and professionalism.
- Promote a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages teamwork and motivation.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching or disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, company policies, and workplace safety standards.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and career development.
Guest Relations and Service Excellence:
- Maintain high levels of guest satisfaction through prompt attention to complaints, feedback, and service recovery.
- Personally interact with VIP guests and long-term clients to build loyalty and ensure repeat business.
- Oversee guest service standards and ensure consistent adherence across all departments.
- Monitor online reviews and social media feedback, taking corrective actions where necessary.
Sales, Marketing, and Business Development
- Work with the sales and marketing team to drive occupancy rates, banquet sales, and food and beverage revenue.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies, promotions, and partnership initiatives to attract new clients.
- Monitor market trends and competitor performance to identify opportunities for business growth.
- Represent the hotel at industry events, trade shows, and community functions to enhance brand visibility.
Compliance, Safety, and Maintenance:
- Ensure the hotel complies with all statutory, health, and safety regulations.
- Maintain security and emergency procedures to safeguard guests, staff, and property.
- Oversee preventive maintenance schedules to ensure facilities and equipment are in optimal condition.
- Liaise with relevant authorities on environmental and safety matters.
Reporting and Administration:
- Prepare and present operational and financial reports to management.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and documentation related to hotel operations.
- Ensure data accuracy and confidentiality in all record-keeping and administrative processes.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage).
- Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in hotel management or a senior supervisory role within the hospitality industry.
- Proven leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost control.
- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in hotel management software (e.g., Opera, Fidelio, or equivalent) and MS Office Suite.
- High level of personal integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
