Job Summary
- The Logistics Specialist will be responsible for building, leading, and scaling the company’s logistics function. This role goes beyond daily dispatch coordination and focuses on fleet acquisition, driver onboarding and training, process design, and performance optimization across all delivery operations.
- The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience setting up logistics operations, managing fleets (bikes and trucks), recruiting and training drivers, and implementing systems that support efficient, compliant, and cost-effective delivery at scale.
Key Responsibilities
Logistics Operations & Department Leadership
- Set up, structure, and lead the logistics department, including processes, systems, and performance standards.
- Oversee end-to-end delivery operations to ensure timely, accurate, and cost-efficient deliveries.
- Develop and continuously improve logistics workflows, SOPs, and operational policies.
Fleet Acquisition & Asset Management:
- Source, onboard, and manage delivery assets including motorcycles and trucks through purchase, lease, or partnership models.
- Establish and manage relationships with bike/truck vendors, leasing partners, and maintenance providers.
- Oversee proper use, maintenance, and tracking of all logistics assets, including vehicles, devices, and uniforms.
Driver & Rider Management:
- Recruit, onboard, and train riders and drivers on operational standards, safety, customer service, and company policies.
- Implement performance management systems to monitor attendance, delivery efficiency, and compliance.
- Supervise hire-purchase riders, ensuring adherence to payment schedules and contractual obligations.
Systems, Monitoring & Performance Optimization:
- Monitor daily operations and rider movements using logistics and tracking systems.
- Use delivery data and performance metrics to identify gaps, optimize routes, and improve turnaround time.
- Prepare regular operational reports and actionable insights for management.
Stakeholder Coordination & Issue Resolution:
- Serve as the primary point of contact between riders/drivers, internal teams, and management on logistics matters.
- Proactively resolve delivery issues, escalations, and operational bottlenecks.
- Provide clear communication and leadership during high-pressure operational periods.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 4–6 years’ experience in logistics, fleet management, or delivery operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Proven experience setting up or scaling logistics operations in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong knowledge of fleet acquisition models, rider/driver management, and delivery operations in Nigeria.
- Hands-on experience with logistics management systems and performance tracking tools.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication, reporting, and stakeholder management abilities.
