Job Summary
- The Senior Accountant is to support the management of hospital's accounting operations, ensuring the integrity of financial records, maintaining compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, supporting financial planning and budgeting, and providing accurate financial information to management for strategic decision-making.
- The role also includes management of treasury and tax functions of the hospital. The role ensures sound financial controls, efficient revenue management, cost optimization, and adherence to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Nigerian tax laws, and healthcare industry financial regulations.
Job Functions
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, management accounts, and statutory financial reports in compliance with IFRS and hospital policies.
- Manage revenue accounting by reconciling income from all hospital service lines and ensuring accurate billing and revenue recognition.
- Coordinate budgeting, financial forecasting, cash flow planning, and expenditure monitoring to support sound financial decision-making.
- Oversee treasury operations, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and ensure effective cash and working capital management.
- Support payroll accounting by reviewing payroll journals, statutory deductions, and related reconciliations.
- Manage inventory and fixed asset accounting, including stock reconciliations and asset verification exercises.
- Strengthen internal controls, ensure compliance with financial policies, and support enterprise risk management, internal audits, and external audits.
- Ensure timely compliance with all statutory tax and regulatory obligations, including PAYE, VAT, Pension, NSITF, NHF, ITF, and other applicable remittances.
- Prepare financial analyses and performance reports, providing management with actionable insights to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop finance team members while driving continuous process improvement, automation, and cost optimization initiatives.
- Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned by Management.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field; a Master's degree or MBA is an added advantage.
- 15 – 20 years post-graduation experience.
- Professional accounting certification such as ICAN, ACA, or ACCA is required; CPA is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 12 – 15 years post-qualification experience.
- Minimum of 10 – 13 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a senior accounting role. Experience in a hospital or healthcare environment is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, Nigerian tax laws, financial reporting, budgeting, treasury management, payroll, inventory and fixed asset accounting, internal controls, audit processes, and healthcare revenue cycle management.
- Good knowledge of Treasury and/or Tax management functions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP software such as Sage, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks, or other hospital financial management systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with a high level of integrity, attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and occasionally work extended hours during financial reporting, budgeting, and audit periods.
